It's Not About The Oil

Great graph of oil prices over time, via Think Progress.

Oddly enough, this also tracks pretty consistently with Exxon Mobile stock prices over the last several years. What was it again that started in 2003, when the graph starts going almost straight up? I can't quite remember...

I notice a pattern...

Funny, that. And while I used to think that while wars have generally been good for the economy, I understand a little better, now, that they help some companies much more than others. Amazing, too, how much grief (and blame) Carter took for high gas prices, as well as the lousy economy, while $4 a gallon this summer won't have anything to due with Bush, his policies, obscene profits for energy companies, or the war in Iraq
