Almost forty years on this earth and I just now figured out -- completely by accident -- that Mourning Doves are not "Morning Doves." Changes my entire perception of the bird, knowing that there's an extra "U" in there.
You are not alone there. I've had to explain the terminology to people far older than us. Several times.
Its fun to be an amateur birdologist.
Oh, by the way, Mourning Doves are one of the dumbest birds out there. Their brain to body size ratio is one of the smallest in nature.
Stupid birds.
